If you are having serious reservations about your abilities as a student on Planet College, based on mainly getting a C and occasionally not even that consider this.

A national organization whose mission is to place college graduates in to under achieving schools nation wide as teachers recruits widely for students right about now. Their criteria includes a 2.5 GPA. That's a C average. A C average. This organization believes that recent college graduates can bring something to primary grade students that they may not be getting from their current teachers. It also believes the graduates it places can benefit from exposure to an environment which they may not experience elsewhere.

Planet College does not wish to debate the rationale of this organization's philosophy, no doubt its intentions are well meant. Planet College does wish to point out that along with extensive rhetoric about 'exceptional' experience this organization, as noted, requires average grades for consideration as a candidate.

What does this imply? This implies that the essential philosophy of this site, that it is OK to get a C, in fact, that it is OK to get nothing but Cs is valid. The reason is simple. College is an exceptional experience. Average performance in an exceptional environment is regarded back on Planet Earth as suitable for employment.

Dude, you don't rock.

You hear it a lot on Planet College, Planet Earth and several other places.

"Dude, you rock!" Maybe it may have applied to you. Maybe at that time for a few minutes you did rock. And you may again sometime. Who knows?

But for the most part, day-to-day, in what ever endeavors you are endeavoring in you don't rock.

You simply just get by. Like all of the other desperately average students on Planet College you rarely rock.

And this is the essential situation you find yourself in, getting by, rarely rockin'.

The basic premise of Planet College is it is ok to get by. What ever you have to do as a student to get your degree is ok. If you never rock it is still ok.

The only established, tested, traditional and finally effective way to your degree is to keep steadily plugging along until you graduate.

When you do, and Planet College believes you will, you can buy one of those bricks in the quad that people purchase to commemorate themselves. You've seen them. You probably step on several on a daily basis. They are usually red and have a graduate's name, year and major handsomely etched on them. Some schools allow slogans to be included. After your name yours can say, " He hardly ever rocked but he did graduate."

I just partied all the time and I got a 4.0.

Some where along the way you will come across someone who says (about their college experience), "I just partied all the time and I got a 4.0. " Ever heard that? No? Yes? Ever said it? No, you've never said it. But you may have heard it. Either from another student or from the person themselves. It is a myth. The person who says, "When I was in college I partied all the time. And I got a 4.0" is mythologizing themselves. This phrase implies that they never studied. Even if they aren't out right fabricating, somewhere, some how they studied. Believe it. If they actually achieved a GPA of 4.0 for their college career they earned it. Unless they got their 4.0 in Partying ( and there are those who try) the student actually put the work in. And that is them. The point of this post is that is not you. You will not now nor ever earn a 4.0 period let alone do so while partying all the time. Any such expectations are not only unrealistic they are discouraging.

You are an average person. You are also an average student. Average people rarely get a grade of A in anything. More than likely they get mostly Cs, an occasional B and sometimes even a D. This is the common experience of most students. And with this experience you can graduate. Cs get degrees. So coming up this next term forget about trying to party to a 4.0. Take the classes you can pass. Study when you can. Get Cs, get going and graduate. Remember: Cs get degrees.
